On Your Bikes, Get Set, Race!

We are super excited that this year's Tour de France passes near us during Stage 12 of the race. Last year we were spoilt as the racers went right by our catered chalet (Serre Chevalier-based, Villeneuve!). This year Stage 12 starts from Bourg Saint Maurice (not far from us in Vallandry) and continues on to Alpe D'Huez. We are gunning for Chris Froome again this year, who won last year's race in spectacular fashion and clinched the coveted yellow jersey for the fourth time!

The race starts off from Noirmoutier-en-l’Île on Saturday 7th July and will finish in grand Paris on Sunday 29th July. You can check out the full route on the event website here. This year we thought we'd celebrate the race in style with a 4-Night Half Board Package where you can join us for 2 days of race action in Bourg Saint Maurice and a free day spent at your leisure; hiking, biking, shopping or swimming in the natural pools... the choice is up to you. We'll even pack a picnic for you to tuck into on the race days. The package is priced at £399 per person which will include half board accommodation at our lodge, Petit Mont Blanc, plus transfers from Geneva Airport. See full details here.

Thinking about this year's race, we thought we'd find some fun facts for you about the Tour De France...

  1. Did you know that the longest race was in 1926 and was 3,570 miles long?!!
  2. Eddy Merckx has won the most stages as a single rider, winning a total of 34.
  3. The average cyclist burns around 123,900 during the entire race - that's 252 double big Macs!
  4. The closest win was by Greg LeMond, who beat Laurent Fignon by just eight seconds.
  5. The first ever winner of the Tour de France was Maurice Garin in 1903.
  6. The youngest rider ever to win the Tour de France was Henri Comet – he was only 19 years old when he won in 1904...
  7. ...And the oldest person to win the Tour de France was Firmin Lambot, who was 36 years old when he won in 1922.

So who do you think will win this year's race? Will Chris Froome take his fifth win? Or will Vincenzo Nibali make a stunning comeback? Other predictions have included Dutchwoman Anna van der Breggen and even British Hannah Barnes, who is just 24. Whatever the outcome, we're sure this year is going to be full of action... we can't wait!

By dispensing with things such as towels and complimentary toiletries (bring your own) and guaranteed en suite bathrooms, Hucksters has managed to create accommodation that is definitely communal and cheap but in that no-frills way that makes you feel pretty smug at the money you are saving. It has ...

If you're looking for 5* accommodation where chalet girls wash your feet and sing you to sleep, just stop reading now. If you're not one of the privileged elite, but still want to see snow once or twice a year, head here. I cannot really fault any aspect of the holiday. If you want a low cost skiin...

We stayed with Hucksters in Serre Chevalier, they went above and beyond to provide an outstanding service. The best value for money I've ever had, and the area is stunning! We will definitely be returning.
