New Ventures

You will undoubtedly recognise us from your visits either to Vallandry or Serre Chevalier, Julie has been running the Mont Blanc as Resort Manager for the last 6 years, and Christine and Dave started a year ago at Le Petit Sport. Thanks to Chris and Annette at Hucksters, we have been given the opportunity to take on our own business ventures. Filled with an overwhelming mix of excitement, fear and trepidation, we are setting out to make our business dreams come true. We want to share with you our journey as we embark on building our empire. With all new ventures you start with small steps, however in a new country with a language we are getting to grips with and with systems different to our own, at the moment it feels as if we are attempting to climb Mont Blanc! As many are already aware, Julie defected from a life as a Criminal Defence Solicitor to pursue her love of the great outdoors and skiing. What started as a career break has ended up as a permanent move to the mountains. Completing both Winter and Summer seasons for the last 3 years has now sealed her fate and offered the chance to run the Petit Mont Blanc as a business owner was too good to miss. Newly married Christine and Dave had the same dream to move to the mountains, as they shared the same love of snowboarding. When the opportunity came along to move to the French Alps and start their own chalet business, they were extremely excited and motivated to make their dreams come true. Spending many years touring other ski resorts, they knew exactly what they wanted to achieve and provide for fellow snow lovers. So, our adventure begins....

The first step was to receive a contract from Hucksters setting out the basis for our new businesses within Le Petit Sport and Le Petit Mont Blanc, after much negotiation we accepted the terms offered and we were off! Being new to business and particularly French systems, our next move was to seek the advice of a professional and a friend. A grand tour of the Alps followed with meetings on route in Albertville, Chambery, Geneva and finally Chamonix for much needed clarification of the information we had so far gathered. Not that it was all work on the way, no road trip is complete without a little fun and as the weather was still glorious a swim in Lake Bouget was a must, and dinner at an amazing Japanese restaurant with Chris in Geneva. Anyone starting a new business needs sound advice and luckily for us Chris was able to direct us to the lovely but formidable Christine in Chamonix, who along with an expertise second to none at growing sunflowers, knows all there is to know about setting up bank accounts, becoming Entrepreneur Individualle's and running our own vehicles for business purposes. Leaving better informed but with a list a mile long of information to find and provide we once more set out. This time heading in the direction of Bourg St Maurice and an accountant.

After a long walk with the fourth member of the team, Dexter, to clear our heads, we settled down to the work stuff with files, computers and a mountain of paperwork. Part of the process is to prove we are not only who we say we are but also that we are good characters to boot. Have you ever tried to prove you are of good character - well you can there is a website for everything! Now the really scary part meeting the accountant, have we got everything we need, is it in the right order and will we be able to complete the process of turning us into the next Richard Branson before the 16th December! We will keep you posted!.... Exciting, exhilarating almost as much of an adrenaline rush as our favourite runs, we look forward to being our own bosses but rest assured we have too much to learn to change anything, your holiday will be exactly the same as it always has been the same good value for money, with excellent service and the same fun and friendly atmosphere. In fact we don't want to change anything except to make it better for you so if you have any ideas they are always welcome. Going forward we look to welcome back existing customers, build our reputations and gain new customers in the seasons to come. We would like to thank you all for your past support and hope you will continue to support in future the combined efforts of Hucksters, Le Petit Sport and Le Petit Mont Blanc.

Lifts

Our passion for downhill skiing or snowboarding by necessity requires us to invest every year in a ski pass. Without access to the lifts our sport would become something very different and considerably harder work! Cross-country or Nordic skiing is all very well and good but it is the exhilaration of travelling downhill under our own momentum that brings us ...

My girlfriend and I stayed in Vallandry with Hucksters for 6 days and had a great time with a very friendly environment including not only the staff, but also the other customers. The room was also nice, warm and very functional with the slopes only few meters away from the chalet. Therefore and acc...

We just wanted to say, we had the most marvellous time in the Mont Blanc recently. We were very happy in the Petit Mont Blanc Annexe & the staff were absolutely fantastic. They all went out of their way to ensure we had a fantastic holiday.

Hucksters, are to be highly recommended as they offer a very personalised service at package deal prices and take a genuine interest in making sure you have a good time. I have done 4 trips with them in the last 2 years so they must be doing something right!

By dispensing with things such as towels and complimentary toiletries (bring your own) and guaranteed en suite bathrooms, Hucksters has managed to create accommodation that is definitely communal and cheap but in that no-frills way that makes you feel pretty smug at the money you are saving. It has ...
